Faint Stroke, de Marius Benţa

sinopsis

ERIC MALER (23, faded guy) makes his living from graphic design. He is unhappy, and fails to maintain a proper relationship with his girl-friend MELY (24). From FIONA (28), a writer who has come to believe in the reality of her imaginary characters, Eric gets the idea of making up his own secret mentor to teach him how to become powerful and self-confident. To do that, he steals one of Fiona's characters. Eric enters inadvertently in possession of several photos of SHAUN MAC ADAM (34, macho), a stranger to him but a close colleague to Mely. Eric scans one of these photos and generates a full digital image of his new mentor by adding body parts from other photos of males. With each step of this digital reconstruction, Eric is taught a new lesson about the way he should understand and use his own body as a "real man". Mely has a one-night-stand with real Shaun, her colleague. Apart from making love, Mely and Shaun food-poison themselves that night by accident. Shaun gets seriously ill and dies. Apparently, Eric's training has reached its goal: he feels he's a good-looking man, and is happy with the idea of sharing his life with Mely and her newborn child who, he assumes, is his son. He wants to put an end to this imaginary relationship with his teacher. But this one isn't prepared to leave. Before getting shot by Eric, the mentor delivers him three more lessons, this time in a violent way. Mely discovers among Eric's books several photos of Shaun. She infers that Eric and Shaun must have been involved in some gay relationship. She feels betrayed, and leaves Eric after telling him he is not the father of her baby.
